It is good to under different types of stomach fats before you start losing belly fat.

Belly fat is one of the most stubborn fat to burn in your body. An essential starting point to doing away with it is understanding the kind of belly that you have.

Generally, the fat surrounding your belly can either be visceral fat or subcutaneous fat. Visceral fat surrounds your organs, while the latter is the fat just underneath your skin.

Excess fats around your stomach give people different types and shapes of bellies, as described below.

1) Hormonal belly

hormonal imbalance to lose weight

Hormonal belly forms due to fluctuations or imbalance of hormones.

This often happens during menopause whereby, estrogen levels increase. These hormones tend to favor and enhance the accumulation of fats around the belly.

Unhealthy foods, stress, and lack of enough sleep, among other factors, can cause an imbalance in your hormones, which will lead to fats being stored around your waist.

2) Stressed-out belly

A stressed-out belly is characterized by having your upper belly spilling or protruding over your trousers, skirts, or shorts.

High-stress levels usually cause this kind of belly fat. Whenever you are stressed, the adrenal glands release a stress hormone known as cortisol.

Cortisol is responsible for the accumulation of fats around the belly.

3) Beer/ alcohol belly

alcohol

Just like the name suggests, a beer belly is caused by too much consumption of alcohol.

Alcohol contains lots of calories, and when taken in huge amounts, they are stored as fats in your abdominal area.

Alcohol also increases your appetite, and you are likely to consume more calories than you should.

4) Mommy belly

This is a common type of belly fat, especially amongst women who have just given birth. It usually appears as a pooch at the bottom of your belly button.

During pregnancy, a lot of fat is built to protect the fetus from any harm. You are also likely to give in to your cravings when pregnant, and not all food cravings are healthy.

The mommy pooch also develops as a result of the muscles stretching out. The abdominal muscles become loose and weak and bulge after giving birth. Also we have discussed before the difference between fat belly and pregnant belly, check it out.

5) Bloated belly

Have you ever noticed that your stomach is flat in the morning and bloated at the end of the day?  This is a bloated belly that is caused by what you eat.

Bloating happens due to the accumulation of gas or fluids in the stomach.

Foods such as wheat, lentils, beans, and dairy products can cause the accumulation of gas in your stomach and enlarge it.

A bloated belly can quickly go away if you remove specific foods from your diet. In some cases, it could be an indication of another health issue that needs to be addressed.

Conclusion

Discussed above are the different types of belly fats and shapes. Luckily, they can all be gotten rid of.

Exercising and eating the right foods can help flatten out your belly regardless of the shape.
